What are the benefits of the StickyMat electric floor heater?
StickyMat is a low-profile electric underfloor heating system that is ideal for one-zone renovation projects, bringing space-saving radiant warmth to colder rooms in a property. It features an ultra-thin heating wire evenly spaced and taped to a glass fibre mesh matting with a pressure sensitive adhesive backing so that it can be easily attached to the subfloor and repositioned without losing adhesion.
Offering unparalleled value for money, StickyMat provides 100% efficient direct electric heat with no energy wastage. It is available in a choice of 150 W/m² and 200 W/m² heat outputs making it suitable for a wide range of applications.
Which rooms and floor finishes are suitable for electric heating mats?
Electric heating mats can be installed in almost any room in your home but are typically recommended for regular-shaped areas where the mats can be laid out in parallel runs across the subfloor. The StickyMat system is especially suitable for those rooms featuring ceramic or porcelain floor tiles such as bathrooms and kitchens. Its 3mm system depth means that it can be fitted directly within the layer of tile adhesive or levelling compound, so it won’t have any impact on floor levels.
If you’re seeking an electric floor heating mat for use with softer floor finishes in bedrooms and living areas, then the Warmup Foil Heater is a great solution. It offers a dry installation method with no need for adhesives or screeding.

Should I use insulation with my underfloor heating system?
Yes, you should. Floor insulation reduces heat loss in your home whilst improving the responsiveness of a UFH system – providing faster heat-up times and in turn, helping to reduce the system’s long-term running costs.
Warmup’s Ultralight UFH Boards are perfect to install with StickyMat. Ultralight features a unique heat-spreading layer, soundproofing qualities and a decoupling layer which can help prevent damage to floor tiles caused by lateral subfloor movement. Using Ultralight with floor heating could save you up to £16.50 m/2 per year. Read our in-depth article to learn more about the benefits of floor insulation.
How easy is it to install the StickyMat electric floor heater?
One of the great benefits of the StickyMat system is its rapid installation times. In our StickyMat video installation guide below, you can follow step-by-step instructions on how to best fit the system in a kitchen.
Top ten tips for installing the StickyMat System:
- Always measure and record the resistance of the heating mat before you begin your installation.
- Lay down insulation boards onto the subfloor. Ultralight can be easily cut and positioned into place by hand. If you’re using self-leveller with the StickyMat System, you should fit a perimeter strip around the edge of the room to allow for differential movement between finished floor level and walls. You can also use waterproof joint tape if required.
- Due to the innovative mesh matting of StickyMat, you can cut and flip the system where necessary to fit the exact dimensions of the floor space. You can also remove the cable from the mesh too if you need to fit the system around fixed objects.
- When installing the mat, you should maintain a spacing of 50 mm between the heater and the perimeter of the room or any unheated areas. Make sure you never cross the heating wiring over another run, over coldtails or the sensor.
- To fit the coldtail, simply cut out a section in the insulation or subfloor for the coldtail joint so that it sits at the same height as the heater.
- To secure the mat to the subfloor, simply roll out in parallel runs and press onto the subfloor so that the pressure-sensitive adhesive backing adheres securely.
- The system’s sensor should be fitted at least 300 mm into the heated area in between the closest parallel runs of heating wire.
- Once adhered to the subfloor, the StickyMat System can be covered with tile adhesive or levelling compound. It’s important not to switch on the heater until this covering has fully cured.
- Conduct another resistance test before installing your final floor finish to ensure the heating system has not been damaged.
- Now the thermostat can be connected. Final connections to the main electricity supply should always be completed by a qualified electrician.Once the system’s working correctly, you can fit your chosen floor finish.
