Specifying Underfloor Heating with the Warm Homes Plan

Eco-friendly underfloor heating solar power

In January 2026, the British Government announced details of the Warm Homes Plan: a set of new regulations and funding streams that aim to make homes across the nation more energy-efficient and in turn, more affordable to heat. In this guide, we’ll explore how Warmup’s range of heating solutions are well-placed to be at the heart of any Warm Homes Plan-funded project.

What is the Warm Homes Plan?

With a focus on cleaner, renewables-based technologies, the Warm Homes Plan will ringfence £15 Billion of public funds to improve the ways we heat our homes.  A range of grants and loans will be made available to homeowners, renters and landlords for the following measures:

Low-Carbon Heat Pumps: Upgrading gas-fed boilers to more sustainable ground and air-source heat pumps

Solar Panels and Batteries: Installing rooftop solar PV systems and battery systems to store this energy and reduce demand on the national grid

Improvement of Insulation Levels: The fitting of high-quality loft, wall and floor insulation to assist in reducing heat loss levels

Heating Controls for Enhanced Energy-Efficiency: Purchase of Smart Thermostats to provide more efficient heat control and lower a heating system’s running costs

Heat Pump-Ready Water UFH Systems

Underfloor heating is up to 35% more efficient than traditional heating methods and Warmup’s water UFH systems are fully compatible with heat pumps.

As a more sustainable heat source, heat pumps can reduce both the carbon footprint of a property and the costs of heating it. Heat pumps convert the natural warmth in the air or ground into warmth for a heating system and work particularly well with underfloor heating systems as both are designed to operate efficiently at lower temperatures, delivering the same level of comfort without the energy loss of radiators. Replacing an existing boiler-based central heating system with a heat-pump powered Warmup Smart UFH system could reduce a property’s carbon emissions by nearly 1900 kgCO2/year and reduce its annual running costs by almost £700.

If you’re planning on installing a new heat pump, then the VLo line of low-profile water UFH systems are perfect for retrofitting within any home renovation project. The line is comprised of three different solutions, with each system designed for a specific application: the VLo Nexxa-12 Castellated System has been designed for installation with insulated floors, the VLo Econna-12 Joisted Floor System is for use with joisted floors and the VLo Ultra-12 Low Build System is a perfect all-rounder developed for use with uninsulated floors. The slimline design of each of these systems mean they will have little impact on existing floor heights.

The new Lo-16 System is also a great choice to use with a heat pump. Offering a dry installation method in rooms of any size and shape, the Lo-16 System offers exceptional value-for-money – delivering superior comfort, lower running costs, and robust protection for almost all floor finishes.

The Perfect Electric Floor Heating for Solar Power

Considering installing a solar PV system on the roof of your property using a Warm Homes Plan grant or loan? Then it’s also a great time to think about installing a new solar-powered heating system.

The low power consumption of the DCM-PRO Low Wattage System makes this electric floor heater perfect to use with solar panels. Specifically designed for well-insulated homes with low levels of heat loss, the low watt DCM-PRO provides 100% efficient direct electric heat with a flexible heat output of between 41.3 W/m² – 82.5 W/m². Using this system with solar arrays and batteries can allow a house to be heated by zero-carbon, self-generated electricity with no need for supplementary energy from the grid.

High Quality Insulation to Reduce Heat Loss

Installing new insulation in a property is a great way to reduce its heat loss and Warmup offer a range of insulation products to help keep the warmth produced by a heating system within the space and the cold external temperatures out.

The Ultralight UFH Board is ideal for use with many of our electric and water systems. Ultralight provides 50% more even heating and 30% faster heat-up times than standard insulation boards and has been engineered with a four-layer construction method with an aluminium heat spreading layer and decoupling attributes for increased performance. Using Ultralight with underfloor heating could reduce heating costs by up to £16.50 m/2 a year.

How Warmup’s Heating Solutions Can Help with New EPC Regulations

As part of the Warm Homes Plan, residential landlords in the UK must ensure that their properties have a minimum Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of ‘C’ by October 2030 and using Warmup’s Smart controls and services can dramatically improve the energy performance of any property. Using the 7iE Smart Matter WiFi Thermostat alongside Smartcare by Warmup will enhance the efficiency and long-term durability of a floor heating system, which will in turn help the end-user save significant amounts of money on their energy bills.

As a globally trusted underfloor heating and Smart controls company based in the UK for over 30 years, Warmup are committed to helping make Net Zero a reality for the UK. Our systems are Future Homes Standard-compliant and for our work on sustainability so far, we have been awarded a bronze medal rating from EcoVadis, putting us in the top 24% of the construction industry.
