What kind of projects is the VLo Nexxa-12 Castellated System suitable for?
Water underfloor heating systems can be roughly split into two types: those more suited for new-build projects and those which can be retrofitted into existing properties. With its low surface finish of just 22mm, the VLo Nexxa-12 Castellated System is ideal for any home refurbishment where maintaining minimal floor heights is crucial.
As a screeded water UFH system, the Nexxa-12 System has been designed to be installed over pre-insulated subfloors in rooms of any size and shape and is compatible with a variety of floor types including wood, tile and stone. Its advanced energy-efficient technology provides excellent heat output: around 70W/m² for timber floors at a water temperature of just 40°C which will ensure that your home stays radiantly warm all year-round whilst potentially saving you significant amounts of money on your annual bills. How does the system work?
The Nexxa-12 System utilises a robust yet ultra-slim 12mm heating pipe to pump gently head water from your heat source through circuits installed within the system’s accompanying low-profile castellated panels before a layer of screed is applied over the top. This usage of castellated paneling allows for a more personalised heating layout — allowing you to fit the pipework with precision, tailoring your heating to your home’s specific needs.
Because this system does not include in-built insulation, it’s important to fit it onto pre-insulated floors. Insulation is always recommended with underfloor heating (particularly when installing a system within concrete screeds) to both prevent heat loss and improve system response times. Warmup’s Ultralight Underfloor Heating Boards are perfect to use with the VLo Nexxa-12 Castellated System.
To control the system, you’ll also need a system-dedicated heating controller. Using a Warmup Smart thermostat with the Nexxa-12 allows you to set up bespoke automated heat schedules in different parts of your home with the option of grouping heating zones together for even greater comfort and efficiency.

Is the Nexxa-12 an easy-to-install water floor heating system?
One of the Nexxa-12 Systems great benefits is its ease, and speed, of installation. Its innovative panels are easy-to-cut to fit the dimensions of the space and feature a self-adhesive backing which allows them to be bonded directly to a smoothed and primed subfloor — with no waiting around for drying time. The system also requires less screeding than comparable systems, which can reduce the structural load on the building and will result in cost savings on materials too.

Can installing water underfloor heating reduce my energy bills?
Absolutely. Water UFH systems don’t operate at as high a temperature as central heating but through their use of the radiant heat effect, still produce the same level of warmth within a property. With this increased efficiency, you could enjoy significant savings on your energy bills.
And, like all Warmup water floor heating systems, the Nexxa-12 is also fully compatible with ground and air-source heat pumps. Using a heat pump-powered underfloor heating system can open-up even bigger long-term cost-savings whilst dramatically lowering the carbon footprint of your home. Find out more in our expert guide.
