Which UFH system will be best for my home?

Our range of underfloor heating systems offer a discreet, energy-saving heating solution for contemporary homes and we offer both water and electric floor heating systems for use in all rooms and with all floor finishes. Want to find out whether an electric or water system is better for your project? Use our innovative flowchart to work out which system type will be best for your needs.

Electric floor heaters are great for smaller renovation projects

Our collection of electric systems are the perfect choice for one or two-room refurbishment projects to work alongside your property’s main heating source. So, if you’re thinking about renovating your bathroom and want to get rid of its cumbersome radiators and experience the pleasure of heated floors after a relaxing shower, an electric floor heater is a terrific idea. Electric systems such as the DCM-PRO Heated Decoupling System have been specifically designed for use with tiled floors in bathrooms and kitchens and can help prevent cracking and damage to these floor types due to lateral subfloor movement.

Electric floor heating also offers the great benefit of rapid installation times, with some systems being able to be installed in a room in a matter of hours. Read our expert blog to discover some great installation tips for electric UFH.

A water underfloor heating system is ideal for new-builds or larger refurbishment projects

If you’re planning a top-to-bottom renovation of a whole house or building your dream home from the ground up, then water underfloor heating is the ideal heating solution. Water systems are best used as the primary heating method of a property and can be fitted with existing traditional boilers or used with more sustainable heat sources such as ground or air-source heat pumps.

Choosing the right water UFH system for your project will be based on the system’s installation requirements. Water systems are typically divided into two categories: those which require installation within a concrete screeded subfloor and those which can be installed ‘dry’ on top of the subfloor, without the need for screeding. You can find out more about these different installation techniques in our informative article

Water underfloor heating systems take longer to install than electric heaters and with this increase in installation times, they will cost more to fit too. The VLo Line of low-profile water UFH systems are perfect for both new-build and home refurbishment projects. These systems will have little impact on floor heights and provide a hassle-free installation.

How to get a Water UFH Quote

Warmup’s Water UFH Quoting Tool uses our in-house expertise to create a bespoke heating solution for your project in under 30 seconds. Alongside helping you choose the best system for your needs, the tool calculates a wealth of information: from input temperatures to flow rates and pipe spacings that will ensure the heat output matches the requirements of the building. Let’s explore how to complete the quote form.

  • Give your project a ‘reference name’ – this will make it easy to keep track of future quotes
  • Enter the postcode of your project
  • Select your room type
  • Enter the total floor area of the space – this will be the measurement of the entire floor area of the room, including unheated areas (such as the space below cabinetry in the instance of getting a quote for a system with a kitchen)
  • Choose which kind of heating controls you’d like to use – you can choose between Smart thermostats or more basic programmable options
  • Select your project’s floor construction – you can choose between new screeded floors, existing screeded floors or joisted floors. Whichever option you select will automatically suggest the best water systems for your project
  • Choose which system you’d like to be quoted for – if you need more information about a specific system presented, you can also click the link to find out more about its unique attributes
  • Enter your name, email address and phone number
  • You can also select whether you’re interested in having Warmup suggest an installer who could help fit your new system

Understanding your quote

Your completed quote will inform you of the cost of the selected water underfloor heating system as well as providing you with a breakdown of the system’s components: you’ll be able to view a ‘Bill of Materials’ which shows you exactly which products make up your quote alongside a ‘Commissioning Log’ which explains the technical requirements of the system including its prospective water temperature, its flow rates, heat loads and heat loss levels. If you need to amend the details of your project – for instance if the quote states that the heat output is ‘insufficient’ – you can also update these directly here. If you’re unsure of how to complete this, it’s a good idea to ask your installer to complete this process or you can get in touch with Warmup where one of our team will be happy to help you.
