What is underfloor heating?


Unlike traditional heating systems that warm the air first, underfloor heating delivers heat from the ground up, creating a naturally comfortable indoor environment.

The system consists of either electric heating cables or water-filled pipes installed beneath the floor surface. As these elements warm up, they radiate heat evenly across the entire floor. This gentle radiant warmth is then absorbed by people, furniture, and surrounding surfaces before gradually raising the room’s air temperature.

A good way to picture this is to think about walking into a room where the floor itself feels pleasantly warm. Instead of relying on bursts of hot air or concentrated heat from radiators, the warmth is spread consistently throughout the space, eliminating cold spots and providing greater overall comfort.

Because radiant heat is distributed more evenly, underfloor heating can achieve the same level of thermal comfort at a lower air temperature than conventional heating systems. This not only creates a more pleasant living environment but can also contribute to improved energy efficiency and lower heating costs.
